On this cold cold day, I thank God for:

  • living next door to my parents and their wood stove. so even when our apartment won’t heat up beyond 58 degrees, we can go a-visiting 😉
  • being “The Great Physician.” prayers of healing for my dad who is down with a stomach bug.
  • warm healing soups
  • the skills to have a hobby like knitting
  • nesting and making lists
  • a week of sleeping through the night before more teething started
  • our hopes and dreams

Taking time to reflect on God’s goodness, no matter the circumstances.

Being thankful to God for:

  • Piper having slept through the night 3 nights in a row! (praying this will continue to be the norm)
  • We are all healing (even Joe…finally).
  • Moving into a new decade of my life this weekend (thankful, but not pleased…).
  • Being a wife, a mother, a teacher, a keeper of my home.
  • My wonderful family.
  • New adventures to be had this year (updates as they happen).
  • An easy pregnancy, and healthy baby (prayers for more of the same).

7 of 8 chicks that have hatched…several more eggs remain unhatched

Taking time to reflect on God’s goodness, no matter the circumstances.

Thanking God for:

  • the opportunity to see chickens hatch. It is such a cool experience.
  • not being able to find my canner. There must be a reason I shouldn’t make dill relish today?
  • P being able to poop again, and for the wisdom to figure out it was a [cows] milk allergy.
  • being out of the woods with my morning sickness. Now just waiting for the burst of energy that comes along with the second trimester.
  • getting to meet with my midwife on Monday.
  • the wisdom imparted to me by my parents.

1 – our 1st ripening tomato / / 2 – pretty purple potato blossoms / / 3 – summer squash / / 4 – nursing kid / / 5 – goat hugs

Thanking God this week for:

  • restoring my computer to me!
  • the added blessing of a second goat in milk
  • fresh raw milk every day and homemade yogurt from said milk
  • learning new skills
  • the provision of food that is brought forth from the earth whose source isn’t the supermarket
  • cheap thrifted finds
  • a long afternoon nap for the little one
  • keeping me humble when I start to get a little self-righteous
  • my husband; without whom, my life would not be what it is. That he works so hard to make a reasonable place for our family and animals and that he challenges me to become more industrious, a harder worker, and a gentler wife, mother and woman.

Taking time to reflect on God’s goodness, no matter the circumstances.

Thanking God for:

  • Piper’s lack of sleeping through the night this week out of nowhere. Don’t know why, but apparently we need to go through it.
  • a very active 9 month old who’s getting into everything! It’s actually quite fun if I have nothing to do.
  • grocery stores that stay open past 9pm so I can get my shopping done when my husband gets home late.
  • sisters who take me out so that I can have some time to myself.
  • a mom who is willing to babysit.
  • a husband who is a fussy eater, but also not so fussy that he wont eat Ramen when I’m stumped for something to make for dinner. (epic wife fail)
  • pain, hurt, sorrow, failure, stress, and things that go wrong because they make us better stronger people.

Thanking God for:

  • lots of friends who have goats in order to give us advice about ours
  • homemade – baby food, beauty products, health products, cleaning products
  • breakfast from scratch and not from a box
  • the new moon to stimulate plant growth
  • wheat, hops, lupine, spinach, garlic, chives – all springing out of the ground
  • the blessing of animals for food, drink, manure, and creating compost
  • my mother to teach me the domestic arts
  • spinning wheels soon to be in use

Thanking the Lord for:

  • the craziness of New England weather where it can be 80° one week and 40° the next!
  • seeing teeth starting to poke through on the top of baby P’s mouth
  • crawling, climbing, waving, clapping
  • having an oven this weekend *fingers crossed*
  • grace, mercy, forgiveness
  • good friends, good church, good counselors

Thanking God on this gorgeous day for:

  • being able to wear shorts in March
  • open windows and fresh air
  • cloth diapers
  • the prospect of our oven getting installed next week!
  • a baby who slept 12 hours last night
  • a husband who will read out loud to me
  • seeing our onions sprout
  • planting lupine
  • hanging clothes on the line
  • the chickens laying more with longer days and more sunshine
  • the prospect of a baby goat (so cute!) and fresh raw milk right around the corner

Giving thanks to God for:

  • blessing us with a pregnant goat so that we may start having fresh organic milk (and cheese!) this spring
  • the baby taking longer naps and switching to 2 a day
  • never having a beer shortage
  • providing for our needs even when we don’t know how we can afford them
  • the library giving me their coupons!
  • the kindness of others
  • the earth, plants, and animals that give us what our bodies need to sustain our lives
  • walks, warmth, and sunshine which get us out of our winter funk

Taking time to reflect on God’s goodness, no matter the circumstances.

As my little one refuses to fall asleep tonight, I thank God for:

  • Piper surviving this long in her short life
  • sisters who live close by and are able to properly administer the Heimlich Maneuver
  • friends coming to visit
  • a friend lending me her ball winder and swift (!)
  • family outings
  • sleep training that is harder on mama and papa than on baby, but well worth the work
